Scotscraig Smithy, Tayport

The Scotscraig Smithy on the Cupar Road is still easily recognisable today. The last blacksmith was James Johnstone; one of the smiths that preceded him was James Wallace, and it is he who is seen standing second from the right with his hands on his hips. The blacksmith and his family were provided with the cottage that adjoined the smithy. In 1911 the cottage and former smithy were occupied by John Redpath, who established the Burnbank Nursery on the premises. The nursery is still owned and worked by his family.
