Kirkgate, Cupar
Looking south down Kirkgate. This undated view by
local photographer David Gordon features the chimney sweep with his
horse and cart. The first church to stand on this site was built in
1415, the earlier church being to the North-west of the town. The
tower is part of the original building, topped with a spire added in
1620. Three bays of the North aisle of the old church survive, and
are now used as the session house, but the main part of the church
was replaced in 1785 by a plain Georgian structure, designed by a
local architect.
